About Non – State Actors Sierra-Leone
After surviving political instability and the Ebola Virus Disease, Sierra Leone has made steady progress in maintaining peace and stability. However, despite the progress achieved, slow economic growth, high levels of poverty and youth unemployment continue to persist leaving children, youth and women and girls among the most effected. This has led many of them to embark on irregular migration rendering them as easy targets for human traffickers and smugglers.
The need to build the capacity of the government of Sierra Leone to better manage migration and fight trafficking in persons and support victims of trafficking is required for the overall development of the country. The project seeks to support the government in stopping irregular, transnational migration of trafficked children, children on the move and trafficked adults from Sierra Leone to Libya, Mauritania, other ECOWAS Member States and the Middle East.
