The implementation of the ECOWAS General Convention on social security aims at strengthening the extension of the coverage of social security of migrants and their families and guarantees the portability of their social security rights within the ECOWAS region. It follows the recommendations and action plan prepared during a workshop held from Wednesday 16th to Thursday, 17th September 2015 in Abuja, Nigeria. The workshop was organized by the ECOWAS Commission in collaboration with ILO under the implementation of the project “Support to Free Movement of Persons and Migration in West Africa” (FMM) project.
Participants from ECOWAS member states, ECOWAS Commission and from the International Social Security Association validated the findings of the study on social security systems of ECOWAS Member Countries and Mauritania among which:
