FMM
The project “Support to Free Movement of Persons and Migration in West Africa” (FMM West Africa) aims to maximize the development potential of free movement of persons and migration in West Africa. It does so by supporting the effective implementation of the ECOWAS Free Movement of Persons’ Protocols and the ECOWAS Common Approach on Migration. The project is jointly funded by the European Union and ECOWAS and is implemented by a Consortium of Partners: The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Component I
The first component of the Project, focusing on the regional level, aims to strengthen the capacities of the ECOWAS Commission to lead an intra-regional dialogue on free movement and migration issues and act as a platform for policy development and harmonization. Several baseline assessments have been carried out during the inception phase to allow FMM to identify the existing capacities, gaps / needs and priorities of the ECOWAS Commission and to design relevant follow-up activities.

Component II
The second component of the Project aims to build the capacities of national institutions in ECOWAS Member States and Mauritania in migration management. As part of the second component, tailored support to migration management activities were provided to member states on improving the migration data management capacities and on strengthening the national policy definition process.

Component III
The third component of the Project relates to promoting the engagement of Non-State Actors (NSAs) and local authorities in information and protection activities for the benefit of migrants and cross-border populations in West Africa.
